Description

Not only is it brilliantly colored throughout, but Red Zeppelin onions will store up to 8 months! Red Zeppelin onions have the best storage potential out of all our long day sweet varieties. This long day hybrid onion plant produces large, round, richly dark red to purple onions with a slightly pungent flavor that will add attractive color to any dish. When left to fully mature, this onion will have intense purplish rings throughout. The Red Zeppelin onion offers a balanced combination of flavor and shelf life. However, this onion will do much better in the northern portions of long day areas since it is a late maturing variety. When allowed to fully mature, this onion will have intense red rings throughout.

Free Shipping on all orders! Exclusions apply to AK, HI, PR, and VI orders over ten bunches; add $2.00 per bunch over ten bunches or $40 per case for shipping/handling.

This is another red (?) onion I grow every year and wouldn’t be without. For me they are more of a purple color and have thick shaggy skins when cured. Lots of flavor and keep almost as long as Redwing or Copra. I really love this onion, and how it can grow so large and heavy. It always feels heavier than it looks. A great onion, for sure.

Great onion for storage , dried them in our basement instead of putting them in the sun this fall, still using them in February and they are not sprouting.

We grew all 3 of the red varieties the past 2 years, and discovered that Red Zeppelin, while a rich, lovely color and good tasting if eaten right away, tends to sprout very fast and get soft not long into storage. We found Red River to be the best and most reliable all-around red onion.

BEST storage again this year. On June 1, there are still sound Red Zeppelin onions in the spare fridge, where we move the onions when the root cellar gets too warm. Some have green sprout but still good to use. These have stored even better than Copra (now called Patterson for some reason) for the last couple of years. We’re in the Catskill Mountains so are planting our onion patch just today.

This is the best red onion for our Zone 6A that we have tried. Stores well for us into March- April and keeps its sweet flavor without becoming too strong. Love this Onion!
